Want To Be Happier? Practice Gratitude Daily. Here's My 3 Favourite Ways.

· Gratitude,Happiness,Habits

Today I am feeling on top of the world. I woke up in the house I grew up, in beautiful Kent, South East England. My mother is a bit of a Christmas nut so there's not a single wall, window or door left undecorated. It really is beginning to feel a lot like Christmas...

At the Core of why I'm feeling so good today, if I strip it all back, is I'm feeling GRATEFUL.

Walking through the High-street this morning, I was reminded of how lucky I am to grow up in such a beautiful part of the world. I bumped into a young man I used to teach back when I was a teaching assistant, speaking to him this feeling of gratitude erupted again inside of me and I thought to myself 'I'm so lucky to have worked with such great young people'. I'm also grateful to have the chance to see my family this weekend for our annual Christmas Party. I'm grateful to have a business that allows me freedom to travel. I'm grateful to work with such amazing people and to get paid to change lives.

What makes Gratitude so powerful is it has as Domino effect. Recalling one thing we are grateful for, very quickly other things come to mind.

Did you know? If you regularly practice gratitude, you physically change the shape of your Brain?

Think about that.

By bringing to mind what you are grateful for, you're changing the shape of your brain. Not only that (which I find unbelievably Cool), but practicing Gratitude regularly makes you happier.

I'd love to share a couple of my favorite ways to practice Gratitude.

1. Keep a Gratitude list by writing down 5 things you are grateful. Some people like to do this when waking up, others at the end of the day before sleeping. Early in the morning is effective for setting the tone for the day, whereas at the end of the day is good for ending on a high, particular if the day has been challenging.

2. Record yourself using the sound recorder function on your phone, to talk about all you are grateful for in Life. Simply say 'I am grateful for...' followed by whatever comes to mind. Keep speaking until you can no longer think of anything you are grateful for. You will feel very warm and peaceful inside after this completing this exercise. It may take some time to exhaust ALL you are grateful for however it will be worth it. Replay your recording whenever you wish to reconnect with those feelings and your gratitudes.

3. Keep a Gratitude Jar. Every time you feel particularly grateful or there is an event to celebrate, write it down on a piece of paper, fold it and place it in the Jar. At the end of the Month/Year, why not empty the Jar and revisit all of your gratitudes/achievements?

So to end, It only seems right to express my gratitude to YOU, for reading this Blog. I really do appreciate you.
